WOM Museum: A journey into illusion and magic

  • Editorial Team
  • December 1, 2024
  • 3 minute read

Nestled within the vibrant Tour & Taxis district in Brussels, the World of Mind (WOM) museum offers an extraordinary fusion of science, magic, and sensory exploration. Spanning an impressive 1,500 m², WOM does more than showcase illusions – it immerses visitors in a world where perception and imagination intertwine, challenging your understanding of reality at every turn.

From the first step into WOM, it’s clear this isn’t your average museum. Mirror rooms and intricate trompe-l’œil installations dazzle the senses, but they’re more than just eye candy. These interactive experiences invite you to rethink what you see and feel, revealing the secrets of perception in ways that are both playful and profound. Expect unique experiences while being transported through different spaces – the Vortex, the Inverted room, Infinity room, the Ames room…

A Magical Encounter Every Weekend
On weekends, WOM becomes a stage for magicians, mentalists, and illusionists who captivate audiences with their craft. These performances blur the line between entertainment and education, leaving visitors awe-inspired with their dazzling tricks and psychological insights. For those keen to delve deeper, WOM offers 60 to 90 minutes of discovery, mixing magic, science, and interactive fun in an experience unlike any other.

Winter Program: A Magical Christmas Adventure

This holiday season, WOM adds a touch of festive enchantment with the special show “L’Enchanteur de Noël”, running from Saturday, December 21, 2024, to Sunday, January 5, 2025. Featuring the charismatic Maxime Mandrake, this family-friendly event unveils the poetic mysteries of Christmas through dazzling illusions.

Visitors begin their journey with a tour of WOM’s immersive exhibits before stepping through the Magic Wardrobe into a stunningly decorated theater. Here, in a cozy, enchanting atmosphere, dreams come to life. A magical bar completes the experience, serving mulled wine, sweet treats, and whimsical cocktails crafted by a mixologist magician. On December 21 and 22, Santa Claus himself will make a surprise appearance to delight young and old alike. More info here

Learn the Secrets of Illusion at the Magic Minds Academy
Since September 2024, WOM took a magic a step further with the launch of its Magic Minds Academy, developed in collaboration with master magician Maxime Mandrake. This academy provides a unique opportunity to uncover the art of illusion and prestidigitation through workshops and exclusive experiences. Led by seasoned professionals, these sessions empower participants to master techniques like sleight-of-hand and misdirection, making the mysterious art of magic accessible to all.

The Science Behind the Magic

Renowned neurologist Dr. Steven Laureys, recipient of the Prix Francqui, integrates science into the WOM’s narrative. Throughout the journey, “science corners” punctuate the exhibitions, offering fascinating insights into the mechanisms of the brain and the five senses. This blend of tactile interaction, experimentation, and critical thinking elevates WOM into a truly enriching experience.

A Place for All Occasions

WOM’s versatility makes it a perfect venue for a variety of events – from group packages for schools to birthdays and corporate team-building outings. Private events can also take advantage of its dynamic spaces, including a 360-degree projection room, a scientific cocktail bar, and a thrilling escape game. Educators will appreciate the pedagogical resources and interactive programs designed to inspire curiosity and learning in younger visitors.

Plan Your Visit

  • Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
(Plan for 60–90 minutes to fully enjoy the experience.)
  • Winter Show (ticket): Includes a visit to WOM’s exhibits before the performance.
  • Location: Tour & Taxis Shed 4 bis, 1000 Brussels
  • Group and Private Events: Special pricing and exclusive options available.

At its core, WOM is more than just a museum—it’s a celebration of curiosity, imagination, and discovery. Whether you’re drawn by science, enchanted by magic, or simply in search of something extraordinary, this Brussels spot truly dazzles.
