Back to Pompeii – Immersive expo at Tour & Taxis

In Brussels, Back to Pompeii invites visitors on a striking journey back in time to the legendary Roman city frozen forever by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Designed as a next-generation immersive experience, the exhibition at Tour & Taxis combines multiple forms of storytelling and immersion for the first time: life-size sets, sound design, interactive activities, virtual reality and large-scale projections.

Spread across 1,200 square metres of meticulously recreated environments inspired by archaeological discoveries, visitors wander through a Pompeian street and household just hours before disaster strikes. Through an original soundtrack and a fictional narrative audio guide, the public follows the fate of a local family during the final morning before the eruption.

Bedrooms, schools, laundries, bakeries, perfumeries and taverns bring daily Roman life back into focus through interactive scenes that visitors can actively engage with. As the experience unfolds, a growing sense of tension mirrors the anxiety felt by Pompeii’s inhabitants as the first signs of catastrophe begin to emerge.

Back to Pompeii is a major interactive exhibition from Brussels-based studio Tempora. Taking place at Tour & Taxis, the expo invites visitors on a fully immersive journey into the heart of the legendary Roman city. Months of creative work in Tempora’s Brussels workshops have resulted in one of the most ambitious reconstructions of Pompeii ever created.

Before the city is consumed, visitors can witness a virtual reality gladiator fight inside Pompeii’s grand amphitheater, followed by a dramatic immersive projection experience that places them at the centre of the volcanic devastation unleashed by Vesuvius.

Balancing emotion, entertainment and historical accuracy, Back to Pompeii transforms ancient history into a vivid sensory experience that feels both educational and deeply human.
