We are always on the hunt for cool experiences around Belgium and what better way to enjoy this summer than visiting a unique event on the beach! The Middelkerke Sand Sculpture Festival unfolds from 28 June until 8 September as the gateway to not one but to many remarkable worlds. Get ready for an imaginary world trip and decide for yourself – do you want to see pharaos in Egypt or wild animals in Africa? Would you rather visit the Taj Mahal, Japanese temples, or Easter Island? Or you prefer to fly over Rio de Janeiro to return to Middelkerke via New York City and London?
If you have already visited this event in the past, you probably know that the Sand Sculpture Festival Middelkerke offers more than just sand dunes between the sculptures. The festival once again joined forces with the Proefkonijnen for a new exciting interactive performance for everyone. And if you want to try making a sand sculpture yourself, you can attend one of the many sand workshops with the sand expert.
This unique event is ideal for all generations – while the kids have fun on the bouncy castle and get creative in one of the play zones, the rest of the family and friends can relax in the beach bar with a snack and a drink. This way, the Middelkerke Sand Sculpture Festival represents the perfect cocktail for a day of fun at the Belgian seaside.
How to visit?
Just like in 2023, you will find the festival on the beach at the Arthur De Greefplein. You can’t miss the event site of over 5,000 square meters! The location is at the tram stop (De Greefplein) and is therefore easily accessible, even for those using the NMBS Discovery Ticket, which gives you a 50% discount on your train journey. On each entrance ticket, you will find an NMBS code that you can use to book a Discovery Ticket on nmbs.be/discovery and travel to Ostend and back with a 50% discount.
From Knokke, Ostend, or De Panne, take the coastal tram and get off at the De Greefplein stop, which is at the entrance! If you wish to come by car, park your car in the underground parking lot Middelkerke-Centrum.
The festival is open for visits from 28 June to 8 September, every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
