Nestled in the bustling city center of Brussels, a new gem is set to contribute to the thriving hospitality landscape of our city. Housed in a former bank building, Hotel Fleur de Ville reveals itself as an elegant boutique hotel, combining cinematic charm with vintage aesthetics. Our team had a chance to peek into this future marvel that will inevitably become a unique spot in the city centre.
Hotel Fleur de Ville is situated in a historical building that unveils an intriguing layer of history of a place that was once a thriving business in the heart of roaring Brussels in the 19th century. Originally designed by the eclectic architect Hendrik Beyaert in 1889, the building is constructed in the neoclassical style. In the early 20th century it was expanded by Henri van Dievoet, a prominent Brussels architect, followed by Alban Chambon, known for its exuberant, fairytale-like interiors.
The building served as the headquarters for the General Savings and Retirement Fund (CGER: Caisse Générale d’Epargne et de Retraite) and other prominent banking institutions, who were esteemed for their prestigious meeting rooms adorned with meticulous decoration. During our visit, we could witness how this refined venue still reflects a blend of the graceful architecture, symbolic depth and historical importance which once made it a distinctive landmark.

The eclectic design of the hotel pays homage to the building’s heritage, while embracing modernity with unparalleled finesse offering guests a charming vintage ambiance. “It is almost like you step into a movie of Hercule Poirot” says Philippe Delissus, Hotel Manager, referring to the fictional Belgian detective created by British writer Agatha Christie. “The hotel flawlessly incorporates the ambiance of this sophisticated and intellectual character with an evoking decor, inviting guests to immerse themselves in a cinematic experience with always something new to discover.”
Interior designer Saar Zafrir explains that the aim for Hotel Fleur de Ville was to create a captivating and artistic journey for guests by incorporating authentic elements that accentuate the narrative and historical significance of the building. “Fleur de Ville invites guests to delve into the layers of its past and present, and challenges them to reimagine heritage”, says Zafrir.
The hotel’s eclectic style is seamlessly integrated throughout its 51 rooms and suites. The luxurious Aesop amenities create an intense feeling of relaxation. The large windows of The Bluebell rooms provide views on the inner garden with daylight flooding in, while the Iris rooms overlook the city’s lively streets, featuring authentic finishes like a fireplace, wooden doors and authentic moldings. With four sophisticated suites, guests will be offered a quiet luxury experience with a 100m2 master suite – The Grand Magnolia Suite – as the ‘pièce de résistance’ situated in the corner turret with a stunning dome ceiling.
To complement the elevated experience, guests will be able to utilize the private wellness facilities, opening later this summer, with a hot bath, sauna and relaxation area where a selection of spa treatments will be offered.
Dining in style in the former Council chamber
Perhaps one of the most interesting additions to the Brussels hospitality scene will be the opportunity to experience the intimate setting of The Grand Foyer, a lounge bar where guests are invited to enjoy a refreshing aperitif or local digestif. On the first floor, Hotel Fleur de Ville is set to unveil a new culinary destination where both hotel guests and non-residents can indulge in refined dishes within an upscale, yet relaxed environment. The former council room’s high ceilings and retro-chic decor set a fascinating stage for the soon-to-be-announced restaurant and bar. Hotel guests can already delight in a lavish breakfast here as the hotel doors swing open, as well as enjoy a selection of dishes for lunch and dinner at The Grand Foyer.
Take note foodie aficionados: As of September, prepare for the unveiling of a novel restaurant concept that promises to revolutionize French European cuisine with an innovative twist, with more information to be revealed soon.
