First there was fluted glass, and now there are swirls. Like an artful glassblower, Gilles breathes life into his designs with swirling clouds of colour. For his new collection of exclusive creative decorative objects, the aesthete and designer inspired by Lewis Carroll has launched a unique set of refillable glass candle containers.
These handcrafted containers, made with an element of random choice and intrinsically unique, contain scented candles reminiscent of voyages to nearby places or far-off lands, with aromas of “Chinoiseries”, memories of “Midnight Tales”, “Greek Summer” aspirations or “Palazzo Citrus” dreams, created alongside a famous Parisian Master perfumer. But exceptionally for this new launch, the focus is primarily on the containers: one of his glass jars uses the blackest of inks, with Gothic-inspired tendrils flickering likes flames and intermingling with dark tones. Emanating from the candle is the scent of the England of Gilles Dewavrin’s childhood, evoking evening parties, wild mists and a certain stolid decadence.
Another container is adorned in duck blue, suggesting lakes, waves, parties again, or the indigo glow of dawn. Crafted by artisans with a touch of the Orient, the swirl glass containers encapsulate the spirit of poetry and their colours permeate the innocence of transparency. The tops are uneven, by design, with hair-like strands curling towards the candle wick. You can feel the weight of artistry in your hand, the scent of a moment in time. Smoke will always dissipate, but these swirls will continue to enliven countless evenings.
