Archiweek 2021: (Re)discover contemporary architecture in Brussels

  • Editorial Team
  • October 10, 2021
  • 2 minute read

Third edition of Archiweek takes place from 10 to 19 October in different venues around the city. Organised by Urban, the public is invited to (re)discover contemporary architecture in Brussels with guided tours, open days at architectural agencies, symposia, workshops, conferences and an exhibition.

This year’s theme is un-learning. All interested citizens will have an opportunity to wonder and discover contemporary architecture of our city through guided tours of the selected projects, but also in the many activities organised by archiweek partners. You can consult the Programme and reservations or get more information on the official website.

Urban aims to support contemporary Brussels architecture and to raise awareness of the importance of the role of architecture in the constitution of the cultural identity of Brussels. This approach is in line with the administration’s vision of highlighting yesterday’s heritage and shaping tomorrow’s. “It is in this perspective that we conceived the archiweek, which is aimed at professionals as well as amateurs.” – says Bety Waknine, Head of Urban.

Archiweek 2021 aims to take you inside some iconic architectural projects across the Brussels-Capital Region

Pascal Smet, Secretary of State responsible for Urbanism says that Brussels has the potential to become a world player in the field of architecture. “Both in terms of projects in Brussels and in terms of the strong architectural firms that our city is rich in. We have to be proud of that and we have to play it more internationally. One of the ways we are doing this is by organising ‘archiweek’, in which we put the spotlight on the contemporary architectural landscape of Brussels.” adds Smet.
