Lanieri: The elegance of Italian tailoring in Brussels

  • Editorial Team
  • April 12, 2021
  • 4 minute read

Perfectly fitting clothes, high-quality fabrics and elegant designs for men… all of that together with the unmistakable touch of Italian hands. If you are wondering where to find this perfect combination in Brussels, we got you covered – Lanieri’s atelier in Chaussée de Vleurgat 122 is a place to go for gentlemen who care about the style and good looks. We had a word with Claudio Vernarelli, manager of Lanieri’s Brussels outpost to learn more about the story behind the brand.

This Italian tailoring shop, run by Simone Maggi and Riccardo Schiavotto, is brining Made in Italy custom tailored outfits all the way to Belgium. Lanieri is closely tied to the city of Biella where it gets all the materials from the local producers. The other headquarter of the company is in Milan, one of the world’s fashion capitals. “Biella and Milan are like our heart and soul. Everything we create and produce is 100% Made in Italy”, explains Claudio – our host in the Brussels store. Outside of Italy, Lanieri has shops in Brussels, Paris and Zurich.

Lanieri’s Brussels store is completely dedicated to men’s clothing and entering their showroom is like taking a trip to Italy to get your made-to-measure suit. Upon arriving, you will be met by Claudio, the store manager and Style Advisor who will guide you through the process of creating your profile and taking your measurements.

The company is especially proud of its innovative approach – connecting the best classical heritage of Italian handmade tailoring with the technological advancements of modern times. Claudio explains the concept: “What makes us unique is our precise measuring system which uses AI technology to help create the perfect result for the customer. Once the measurements are taken by hand, the details are introduced into our system. Based on your age, size and height, as well as the composition and formation of your body, the system will help us create the most suitable outcome for each particular customer.” Another advantage – once the details are in the system, the customer can simply choose the product and fabrics next time, without having to take the measurements again.

Not able to visit the shop due to the pandemic?
The innovative approach of the company really helps during this time. The entire Lanieri collection (suits, shirts, jackets…) is available online. On top of that, customers can take the measurements at home thanks to the video guidelines which can help you to easily and accurately take measurements by yourself and upload it on Lanieri’s website. Additionally, Lanieri offers free shipping and guaranteed remake (or refund) to their clients.

“If a customer prefers to take the measurements by himself and make an order online, we are happy to provide this opportunity, making the process easy while ensuring the best quality result.”

How to choose a tailor-made piece?
Claudio explains that Lanieri works only with the best fabrics producers from more classic ones such as Zegna to Zignone, Loro Piana, Reda and other local producers of wool and linen materials. The diversity of fabrics is accompanied with hundreds of textures and combinations which means that tailors can create one of a kind garment, uniquely created according to the customers affinity. “We offer full customisation and the client is able to choose everything, from materials and textures to buttons & pockets. After the choice is made we make an order and the piece is created and delivered to the customer in 2 weeks”.

Besides making timeless, flawless fitting clothes, Lanieri is also working to minimise its impact on the environment. They produce only the pieces which are ordered by the customers and their shops keep only a small variety of selected clothing which serve as samples. The materials of their packages are guaranteed by FSC (Forest Stewardship Council); they avoid unnecessary waste by producing only on request and they contribute to the plantation of trees thanks to a collaboration with Treedom. What’s more, by relying on selected producers in Italy, Lanieri can guarantee that all those who collaborate with them work under fair labour practices.

“Brussels clientele demands high quality and appreciates style & elegance. The city is very international, buzzing with diplomats, businessmen and people who value the quality and bespoke service that we provide. This is also the reason why Brussels is one of the three cities outside Italy where we set up our shop”.
