As our lives have turned upside down and we self-isolated at home earlier this year due to unprecedented lockdowns, we understood the importance of outdoors. A lucky few in Brussels had their backyards to roam and terraces to occupy, while the others had to enjoy the tiniest balconies and other non-standard outdoor spaces attached to their living quarters. Just months before the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the latter ones were far too often under-appreciated and underused urban amenities where inhabitants stored trash, bikes and other bulky items.
During the lockdown, Brusseleirs started enjoying these spaces for sunbathing and connecting with their neighbours and random passers-by. Immediately following the lockdowns, we noticed how Brussels’ balconies and terraces started transforming into small green oasis. Below we present some of our favourite captures with the aim to inspire our readers who have not yet tended to their tiny outdoor heavens. Some plants, graceful chairs, string of lights and voila.
We will keep this page regularly updated with new images of beautiful balconies, terraces and other green & cool spaces in Brussels. Do you have some suggestions for this story? Get in touch with Karolina and follow her on Instagram @europolitans to get more inspiring urban scenes. 🙂
