Why are people loving Kriket? This Brussels start-up is rocking the supermarkets!

Have you already heard of Kriket? This Brussels start-up is producing quality cricket bars and they are becoming increasingly popular in Belgium! We tried their brand new gift box which is created in collaboration with some of the best local chocolate makers. The package includes 5 irresistible Belgian snacks with a chocolate twist, something perfect for this summer! We used the opportunity to have a chat with the founders Michiel & Anneleen Van Meervenne and to discover the story behind this amazing brand.

What is Kriket?

KRIKET is Belgium’s first cricket bar, a healthy snack full of fiber and protein. It’s a wholesome mix of organic nuts, seeds, cereals and… Crickets!

But… why crickets? 🙂

Crickets are incredibly efficient: they emit 100 times less greenhouse gases than cattle and consume 2000 times less water for the same amount of protein. They deliver a high dose of top-quality protein, contain all essential amino acids, and are an excellent source of vitamin B12, calcium and magnesium. And they contain twice as much iron as spinach. Finally and most importantly, with their delicate, soft, and nutty flavor, they’re just delicious.

Where did the ‘Le Chocolat fair la force’ idea come from?

It’s been hard times for food start-ups since Corona cut down sales in horeca, company catering, events, etc… We launched the Belgian Chocolate gift box because the past months we really noticed how much people like to ‘buy local’. We want to show people we’re alive and kicking, and we’re ready to conquer their hearts with fresh and innovative products, 100% made in Belgium. Our box includes Generous cookies, Gr’eat granola, Betty&Albert chocolates and Mallow Puffs marshmallows.

How is it to operate as a start-up in Brussels?

It’s an interesting place to launch food products because the audience is so incredibly diverse. Brusseleirs are foodies: people love to spend money on great food! Besides that, there is a lot going on in the food start-up scene. Exciting times!

What are your future plans?

Our mission is to make crickets mainstream, so we’ll continue to create new cricket-based products. In our perfect world there is a cricket product for every time of the day!
