Giotto is the new start-up, born in Brussels with the aim of renting furniture to those who need quick, easy and yet beautiful solution. Four friends who study “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” at Solvay ULB have decided to create this start-up – it all started as an idea from a school assignment. Giotto (www.begiotto.com) has the goal to rent out beautiful furniture (made in Europe) in Brussels.
We spoke with Laurence from Giotto to find out what’s motivating these young Brussels entrepreneurs:
Our mission is to make life in Brussels more comfortable and productive. This is even more relevant now with the COVID-19 when more and more people work from home. But most of them are not (yet) prepared for this. Take a look at this funny Twitter thread which makes this problem all too clear – https://twitter.com/julesforrest/status/1238526424719355904 .
But also, through friends and family we heard the cries for more comfortable office chairs and other furniture. Everyone is tired of working at their improvised desk (living table) on a cheap IKEA chair. That is why we would like to rent quality and beautiful office furniture now, only for the period you need it!
But our start-up is not just about “home office” furniture. We want to offer a complete dream interior. With Giotto, we would like to radically change the image of furniture. How to buy, use and discard furniture. Every year in Europe, more than 11 MILLION TONNES of furniture waste is dumped in landfills!
That’s because the average European moves about 6 TIMES before settling down. We would pick up the furniture after the rental period, check it, clean it and repair it so we can rent it out again to our next customer. This is how we complete the circle. This also challenges the concept of “Fast Furniture”, we only want to work with high-quality and European furniture manufacturers who promise that their furniture is suitable for multiple assembles and disassembles, that it can be transported and that it is easy to repair.
Soon, we hope to announce some nice news with Giotto, but above all we will also offer a comfortable and productive solution for people in Brussels during these special times.
