First edition of WeLoveBrussels Street Photography Expo ended last week in Brussels. The community exhibition started on February 1st, 2020 at the Wherenowhere Art Gallery.
Opening Night was a big success with more than 200 people coming to discover the works of photographers from our community. During the opening, exhibition curator Aleksandra Rowicka noted the huge amount of photos that the WeLoveBrussels team received for this first edition of this expo. Rowicka also explained that Street Photography was chosen as the theme of the first expo in order to inspire people to share the real life moments which they caught on camera on the streets of Brussels.
Boro Milovic, founder of WeLoveBrussels shared some interesting facts about the development of the project and how each of us can contribute in building positive image of Brussels. He noted that this is just the first community expo and that many similar events will follow in the future. The guests were also greeted by Pascal Smet, Brussels state secretary for urbanism, external relations & foreign trade. He emphasised that Brussels has so much to offer to all its inhabitants but often people need to get to know the city better in order to start loving it. The opening was followed with a free concert by a talented, Brussels-based musician Brigitte Stolk.

Apart from the five selected winners, we also organised a popular vote on Instagram, giving a chance to the public to choose their favourite photos from the winning 5 photographers. If you didn’t visit the expo, you can see our photo gallery dedicated to the winners of the popular vote.
Our first community photo show was dedicated to street photography, aiming to portray urban life of Brussels. The goal of our events is to show diversity, beauty and richness of Brussels and to connect with both local audiences in the physical space (art gallery in this case) as well as with the world via our popular social media channels.
We Love Brussels Photo Expo will be a recurring event and in the near future we plan to call for submission in other categories, from architecture & landscape to people and city life. Stay tuned and follow our instagram and facebook pages for new events!
