April Talk at International Study Group: The State of Nature

  • Editorial Team
  • March 28, 2019
  • 2 minute read

The State of Nature is the topic of the upcoming April talk at the International Study Group in Brussels. Lecture will be presented by Alexander Just.

Europe has an enormous treasure in its hands that needs to be defended against increasing threats by intensive agriculture, and unsustainable energy and transport developments. There are good ways to work with nature, and they always pay off. Comprehensive facts and figures on the status and trends of the species and habitats are covered by the two EU nature directives which Alex Just will present and explain during the lecture.

About the speaker:

Alex moved from Salzburg to Belgium 20 years ago to work with the European Commission to assist in protecting the environment. He is also active in the ‘Brussels Light Opera Company’ as singer, actor and treasurer. His next project is “The Sorcerer” to be performed from 23-26 May 2019 at De Bosuil, Overijse.

Event info:
PLACE: Chateau St. Anne, rue du Vieux Moulin 103, 1160 Brussels.
PARKING : Free alongside the Château in the Avenue Val Duchesse.
COST: €10 guests are welcome.

Since 1960 International Study Group (ISG) has been arranging talks in English on a wide variety of subjects; the arts, the sciences and from current affairs to space exploration. We identify experts who are qualified in their field of interest to talk to us with the aim of furthering the knowledge and understanding of our members. ISG was started by a few women at the American Women’s Club of Brussels (AWCB) but we have been independent for many years now. Our members come from some 25 countries and our Belgian members tend to have lived and worked abroad and wish to mix with other nationalities.

Talks are always given in English and are open to everyone who is interested and available. Meetings are held at the Chateau St. Anne on the 2nd Monday of the month at 10.00 a.m. Members receive a monthly newsletter with a calendar of events and can participate in visits to exhibitions, social lunches, Summer and Christmas events. Individual Annual Membership costs €35; Alternatively, you may attend any talk as a guest for a fee of €10. You may also join as a couple for €60. For more information contact: ISGbrussels@gmail.com
