We continue our music exploration in Brussels and this Friday we recommend the concert of Fred Hersch Trio at Flagey. After this week’s Avishai Cohen show in Ancienne Belgique, jazz lovers will be happy to learn that another international jazz star comes to Brussels. The Guardian called Hersch as “one of the most formidably complete piano improvisers playing today”, which certainly holds true for the artist who has more than 30 albums and 10 Grammy award nominations.
“Fred at the piano is like LeBron James on the basketball court. He’s perfection.” These are the well-meaning words of pianist Jason Moran. Pianist and composer Fred Hersch is a fixture in the jazz world, and led a whole new generation of musicians at the Julliard School in New York, including Brad Mehldau and Ethan Iverson. During his rich career, he has played with the very finest jazz musicians, and he can draw on a huge musical repertoire. This year, his trio’s latest album, Sunday Night at the Vanguard, was nominated for two Grammy Awards (Best Jazz Album & Best Jazz Solo). Pure magic on the stage!
