You have probably heard about the new project which will transform the inner Brussels ring (the so called Petite Ceinture/ Kleine Ring). The area surrounds the center of Brussels. On this belt are concentrated a series of meeting places, busy metro stations, commercial areas and green spaces.
The investments of the Brussels Region aim to transform these places into pleasant areas: a new park at Porte de Ninove, space for pedestrians and cyclists along the canal, terraces at place Rogier and many other projects. Some of them are already underway, such as the upgrading of the zone around Midi station zone or the architectural competition to redraw the commercial district between the Louise and Porte de Namur. Wider sidewalks and a separate and secure cycle path will soon connect these different places. There are altogether 8 zones which are included in the plan, and you can get more information as well as on the designated website.
The Brussels Region wants to improve the quality of the public spaces and make it more attractive for the inhabitants and visitors alike. The goals of the project are:

A safe, comfortable and pleasant space for all, especially pedestrians and cyclists
Accessible neighborhoods
More fluidity for car traffic
Concentrate transit traffic in underground and on the central axis
