  • 4 minute read

Have you already heard about the Horizon 2030 project in Brussels? Thanks to this timely initiative, Cinquantenaire Park in the heart of the European Quarter is a place to be until the end of summer, full of amazing activities. In the run-up to Belgium’s bicentenary in 2030, this is a perfect opportunity to rediscover the Cinquantenaire Park in a new light of innovation and sparkling encounters.

The Horizon 2030 event offers a range of festivities and activities at this iconic venue, guaranteed to provide unforgettable moments with friends and family. The non-profit association Horizon 50-200 is driving a new dynamic and strong ambition for 2030 thanks to the support of National Lottery players.

Between tradition and innovation, Horizon 2030 brings together different popular events such as the Bright Festival, the Brussels 20 km and the Fête Nationale, as well as new events based around heritage, scientific research and culture. There will be also exhibitions, workshops, talks and moments of relaxation in the Cinquantenaire park and in the museums located inside of the park.

Horizon 2030 is the not-to-miss destination, with an exciting new program of discovery, shared experiences and, above all, fun at Cinquantenaire!

All activities are open to the public, offering a great chance to rediscover the treasures of Cinquantenaire Park. Horizon 2030 is a place where the past meets the future with many new and innovative events in the park and its museums. To make sure you don’t miss a thing, check out the full agenda.

Some of our favourites this summer:

THE PERISTYLE
You’ve probably seen it before without really noticing it – or even knowing that it goes by a name known to few: the Peristyle. In architecture, this structure corresponds to the “colonnade which surrounds an interior courtyard or a building” and, by extension, a “colonnade which decorates the façade of a building.”

Horizon 2030 brings the Péristyle du Cinquantenaire up to date with Tipi Cinquantenaire, the Guinguette du Péristyle, with a magnificent view over the park. And you can enjoy all kinds of activities right in front of the Arcades – learn more about all the Péristyle activities here.

EXCEPTIONAL OPENING OF THE PAVILLON DES PASSIONS HUMAINES
During seven Sundays in June and July, there is an exceptional opening of the Pavillon of Human Passions in Cinquantenaire Park. The first opening of this hidden gem, usually closed to the public, will be on Sunday, 2 June. The small Greek temple-like building was the first public commission for the young Victor Horta. Inside, there is an impressive relief by Jef Lambeaux, a monumental Carrara marble masterpiece depicting the pleasures and misfortunes of humanity. The Pavillon has sparked imaginations since its completion in 1898. Thanks to recent restorations, both the building and the relief have been beautifully preserved, offering a rare glimpse into this intriguing piece of Brussels’ history. More info via Horizon 2030 website.

Open during 7 Sundays until 14/07. Opening hours: 10:30 > 16:30
