Record edition: More than 17.000 visitors for the Museum Night Fever!

  • Editorial Team

  • 2 minute read

The 30 museums that participated in Museum Night Fever this year welcomed well over 17.000 visitors, an absolute record.

The show up rate for the Brussels museum night speaks for itself! On Saturday 23 February, the 12th edition of Museum Night Fever welcomed more than 17.000 visitors. On average, each museum enthusiast visited about 3 to 4 of the 30 participating museums, which were open for the occasion from 7 pm to 1 am.

All museums could count on a beautiful, steady stream of people. The large institutions unsurprisingly remain popular, with visitor numbers up to 12.095 at Belvue Museum, 6156 at Magritte Museum and 5000 at KANAL – Centre Pompidou. The smaller museums also attracted many curious museum lovers: 1723 visitors at Jewish Museum of Belgium, 1777 visitors at Chocostory and 870 visitors at ARGOS, Centre for Art & Media.

The afterparty at C12, organised by Deep in House, was also sold out. During the whole evening, no less than 1000 young talents were in charge of the artistic programming. Original, multidisciplinary and above all unexpected, the audience could enjoy concerts, performances, film, animations, glitter, drag, light-saber fights, table football on a human scale, cheerleading, the backstage of a film set, electro-gregorian chants, virtual reality experiences and much more.

Museum Night Fever is an initiative of Brussels Museums (Brussels Museum Council) which aims to prove that young people do love museums. No less than 75% of visitors are under 35 years old. The event is more than just a cultural night out. Making culture accessible is key for Brussels Museums. Besides a very affordable entrance fee, the main focus of Museum Night Fever is to offer an inclusive artistic programme full of new talents who, each in their unique way, reflect our diverse society.

Rethinking classical museum practices is something that does not only need to happen the time of one night, but all throughout the year.

Next year’s edition will take place on 14 March 2020.
Important: your Museum Night Fever 2019 wristband gives you free access to one of the 30 participating museums till the 31st of March (list available at http://www.museumnightfever.be).
