Musée d’Ixelles to reopen next March after major renovation

Great news for museum aficionados – Musée d’Ixelles will celebrate its long-awaited reopening with a festive weekend open to all, from 19 to 21 March 2027. Following an extensive programme of expansion, renovation, and energy-efficiency upgrades, this milestone marks a moment of reconnection with its audiences, partners, and the artists who have shaped the museum over the years. At the same time, it will open the door to new encounters: with fresh visitors, younger generations, and new dialogues between disciplines, eras, and perspectives.

This reopening signals a new phase in the museum’s story. To reopen is to reconnect, linking a rich legacy of nearly 135 years of artistic commitment with a dynamic present; bridging a recognised heritage with living practices; and connecting a strong local identity with both national and international outlooks.

Since its founding, the museum has preserved, studied, expanded, and shared a remarkably diverse collection dedicated to Belgian art from the 19th century to today. Comprising nearly 15,000 works, it stands as one of the most significant collections in this field. Paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, posters, photographs, videos, and installations together form a vivid panorama of artistic creation.
