Plants inspirations: Look At Me by Bela Silva

We are always inspired by good design and as warmer days arrive our attention to plants and green spaces increases exponentially. Being based in Brussels we don’t have to look far away for a dose of inspiration – Belgian homeware and furniture brand Serax is globaly renowned for their quality products. In recent years they collaborated with figures such as fashion designer Ann Demeulemeester, chef Yotam Ottolenghi and architect Vincent van Duysen but we were very happy to discover one of their recent collaborations with a (partly) Brussels-based artist Bela Silva on a collection of earthenware plant pots.

Portuguese artist Bela Silva splits her time between London and Brussels and is known for her colourful ceramic sculptures with organic and plantlike forms. Her collaboration with Serax is named Look At Me and includes five glazed pots with chunky, geometric relief patterns.

As explained on Serax website, the artist Bela Silva was once again inspired by nature – ‘Particularly for the Look At Me pots, I was inspired by the energy and resilience plants radiate,’ she says.

The artist further shared her views: ‘Many people use flowers and plants as decoration, but they transcend this role. After all, flowers are clearly present. They breathe, move and love being the centre of attention. You could just keep looking at them, right? Hence the name of the collection: ‘Look at Me’.

The blue-green glaze, a recurring feature in her work, combined with the crude, natural finish, creates a striking flowerpot. And yet, the pots are simple in their geometric design and repeated relief.
