Photo story: The new look of the STIB staff!

The uniform of the STIB staff is given a facelift! Our photo reporter Aris Setya attended the presentation and made a collection of photos which uncover the new design, new colors and new pieces… A more modern look that embodies the public transport of today and tomorrow.

The uniform: image of the STIB
As you probably noticed, many of the STIB employees wear the uniform. The directors, administrators, the security staff, the sales and reception staff, the dispatchers… All together, 5,100 employees wear the colors of the company during their daily duties.

Modern means of transport: modern uniform
The current uniform was signed in 2006. Since then, public transport has evolved, becoming more modern and comfortable. This evolution will be now reflected on the new uniform – it is a more modern uniform that embodies public transport of today and tomorrow.

Belgian designer Olivier Strelli was chosen to design the new uniform. “Prevention staff was our main concern. Blue was almost obvious because that color appeals to many people and is timeless. We opted for a combination of three types of blue: navy blue / royal blue and STIB blue for better recognizability, “says Oliver Strelli.

What is changing?
The new uniform offers a new cut, new colors, new materials and new pieces. Special attention was paid to the quality of the materials, the wearing comfort, the femininity of the ladies’ uniform, the identity and the comfort of the pieces. Finally, the whole uniform was given a new look so that staff feel good and can promote the modernity of Brussels public transport.

Among the novelties we find:

  • The STIB logo, embroidered or printed on all pieces
  • Buttons with STIB imprint
  • New items: body warmer, long-sleeved polo shirt, gloves, scarves, softshell, dress …
  • More trendy cut: chino pants, fitted shirts, …
  • Four colors
  • The color palette is dominated by STIB tones: blue and red. Gray remains the color for the security service. In addition, white comes for the management and the supporting functions. All in all, four colors were determined per professional category.

Each profession is distinguished by a main color of the top (shirts, polos, raincoat, etc.):

Blue: for directors, reception and sales staff
Gray: for safety employees
Red: for multi-modal employees
White: for field management and support functions
Depending on the function performed, variation is possible on the colors or accessories are added to the outfit.

From when?
The delivery of the new pieces for employees starts on 25 March. Travelers will see the change in May. From that moment on, STIB staff will wear their new uniform on the net.

The French company Cepovett makes the uniform. This company specializes in creating and manufacturing professional clothing. The supplier meets the strictest environmental and social criteria: quality of materials, working conditions, etc.

The STIB will give a second life to the old uniforms by making insulation material from them. Recy’Clothes containers in the various depots collect the old pieces for recycling.
