Brussels on the 28th place of most livable cities in the world

Brussels finds itself on the 28th place among the world’s most livable cities. Our city-region has lost one place in comparison to last year’s ranking.

Vienna leads the way for the tenth year in a row, closely followed by cities like Zurich. Auckland, Munich and Vancouver. These are the results from the 21st edition of the annual list drawn up by the Mercer consultancy.

The top ten also includes German cities of Düsseldorf (6th place) and Frankfurt (7), Danish Copenhagen (8) and the Swiss cities of Geneva (9) and Basel (10). Sydney and Amsterdam also score well, sharing the eleventh place. Brussels occupies the 28th place, just after Stuttgart and above the Australian city of Adelaide. Paris and London have a disappointing score, being on a 39th and 41st place.

At the very bottom, Baghdad finds itself at the number 231, although according to the researchers, the Iraqi city has made considerable progress in terms of security and health care.

Mercer created the livability ranking of 231 cities each year taking into account the quality of life, mobility, environment, safety and other aspects of modern living in global cities. The report is specifically drawn for companies that are sending their employees/expats to different cities in the world.
