Urban snaps: Do you love guinguettes in Brussels?

Have you noticed a proliferation of guinguettes in Brussels (parks) over the past year or so? Our contributor @kateinbrussels shared an interesting post on her Instagram account.

Not being a native French speaker, I did not know what a guinguette was so had to look it up.

It turns out that « guinguette » is an old French word for an outdoor drinking establishment, originally located in the suburbs of Paris and other French cities, which often doubled as dance venues. The origin of the term comes from guinguet, a sour local white wine, of dubious quality I might add.

The guinguette pictured here, in the Cinquantenaire, offers yoga and swing dancing. Plus they make a mean Spritz!
