TEDxBrussels ideas: No limits

Each year TEDxBrussels brings a group of innovative thinkers and doers to share their ideas with the Brussels community. This year’s programme focuses on a very interesting topic – No Limits.

Rudy Aernoudt, TEDxBrussels curator explains what this means for the 2017 edition of TEDxBrussels:

“No limits means that the speakers and artists will be forced to leave their comfort zone and take the audience into a breath-taking experience without borders. It will be an invitation to embrace exciting topics without any boundaries or limits. Speakers should not think ‘outside the box’, because the box no longer serve as a denotation.”

In the face of the unknown, it is automatic human nature to cling onto something familiar in order to have a sense of reassurance. We define parameters and we tend to stay within the confines of this comfort zone, not daring to take risks. But isn’t it more exciting to break free? Often behind the wall lies unexpected emotions, experiences, opportunities and wonders that transform us and force us evolve.

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself where you are going, where society is going, where humanity is going? All of the speakers at TEDx 2017 event didn’t believe in limits – from the personal level to the grandest – they have embraced this train of thought and jumped into its carriages to mark out new tracks that transgressed old ones.

They have all challenged themselves and other people, and now they want to share their experiences with the Brusels audience. This is the profile of one of the speakers, a Brussels-based Sang Hoon Degeimbre:

Degeimbre has literally taken the phrase ‘food for thought’ to another level. His love of cooking ignited a desire to learn, and he opened L’Air du Temps – a Michelin star restaurant in Belgium – without any formal training. Degeimbre is proof that determination driven by passion can get you anywhere in life. It can even help you can reach the stars (Michelin, in Degeimbre’s case).
