Geek and pop culture in Brussels

For those of you interested in the geek and popular culture, Brussels is the place to be in the coming months! Visit Brussels announced several really cool events as every year, from February to April, our city becomes the capital of pop culture.

In the mood for some cinema? Come down to place Flagey for Anima Festival which gets the ball rolling with the best from the world of animation. Do you prefer US comic books, science-fiction or fantasy? Then visit Brussels’ Comic Con at Tour & Taxis. Are you a fan of Asian culture and avid reader of manga? Then Made in Asia is an event to be enjoyed without moderation! If you have a passion for video games, then Brussels Expo has exactly what you’re looking for as it hosts Youplay, a video game fair for insatiable gamers.

Are you a lover of pop culture in its literary form? The late-evening opening of the Brussels Book Fair will be a unique opportunity to meet the authors for a chat, a signing, some live drawing, and of course…. a cosplay competition! And to round things off terrifyingly beautifully, the BIFFF will be welcoming horror and fantasy film aficionados at the BOZAR.

It’s hardly surprising that pop culture feels at home in Brussels as this city definitely has the right qualities: a slightly crazy but cheerful creative spirit, and a sense of total fun!

Some of the events we recommend:

Brussels’ International Animation Film Festival has set up shop at Flagey. For six days, enjoy brand new feature-length and short films for all ages. This year’s special guests are virtual reality and psychedelia! And the cherry on top of the cake? The festival will be organising an exhibition, workshops for children, a course for teens, concerts, installations, conferences, etc. And for the wackier among you: an animated night!

Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival
is an oasis of great films at BOZAR that will get your adrenaline pumping. The organisers have a keen eye for the film gems of horror, science fiction and all kinds of thrillers. On the programme: close to 150 films that you can enjoy those in the presence of the actors and directors, a body-painting and fantasy make-up contest, a manga market, a zombie parade and a vampires’ ball. Come and see for yourself… if you dare!   BIFFF – 04/04 > 16/04/2017
