New concept: Takeaway.com launches 15 Caf’eetjes in Brussels

This month, Takeaway.com is renaming 15 iconic bars and cafés in the capital as ‘Caf’eetjes’, a new concept which allows customers to have their favorite dish delivered and consumed in their favourite local café while also supporting the Brussels Horeca sector.

From 1 June, Takeaway.com will have 15 Caf’eetjes around Brussels – bars and cafes where it will temporarily be possible to have your favorite dish delivered and enjoy it on site. The initiative aims to strengthen links between Brussels bars and restaurants, capitalizing on their respective strengths: the conviviality and typical atmosphere of stam cafés with the culinary skills of the favorite restaurants. In addition, Caf’eetjes initative is a way to support the Brussels Horeca sector, by encouraging customers to stay longer in participating cafés. This temporary initiative will take place throughout the month of June.

From café to Caf’eetje, for a month

The Horeca sector in Brussels is experiencing difficulties for quite some time. In April, a 52% the sector has seen an increase in the number of bankruptcies in one year. Yet, the cafes are an integral part of our cultural and social heritage. Whether it rains or shines, the people of Brussels take pleasure in meeting up in their “stam café”.

This is why throughout the month of June, Takeaway.com offers a chance to order your favorite dish via a QR code displayed in no less than 15 participating bars and cafes in the capital, renamed for the occasion as Caf’eetjes. The QR code opens the doors to the menus of a wide variety of restaurants throughout Brussels.

“We will use this initiative to shine the light on a selection of independent restaurants in the capital, while emphasizing the diversity and multiculturality that Brussels has to offer, particularly in culinary terms.», explains Siska De Lombaerde, country Manager of Just Eat Takeaway.com in Belgium and Luxembourg.

An initiative aimed at supporting the Brussels Horeca sector

With this initiative, Takeaway.com wants to encourage customers to stay longer in participating cafes, by giving them the opportunity to have their favorite dish delivered on site. An idea that is both strong and simple from which everyone wins: customers, cafes and restaurants. The concept aims to support the Brussels Horeca sector and strengthen links between establishments, by capitalizing on their respective strengths: combining the conviviality and unique atmosphere of cafés, and the culinary experience of the diverse offering of Brussels restaurants.

The cafe owners and managers have also shared their enthusiasm for this initiative: “It’s a great operation for us. We are delighted that this idea highlights the strength of the Brussels Horeca sector, and contributes to the search for effective solutions to support our sector. Innovation plays a crucial role in this positive dynamic, bringing new and stimulating opportunities,” says Tom, the owner of Pantin, one of the 15 participating cafés. “Usually our customers only stay for one or two drinks. Thanks to this system, they will be able to extend the evening at our place. And then eating makes you thirsty!“.

Certain establishments such as the bars around Place Jourdan, where the famous Antoine friterie is located, already allow customers to eat fries on their terrace and even inside. They understood that everyone came out a winner, customers included.

The initiative is currently being tested during the month of June. Afterwards, Takeaway.com will examine whether a longer-term rollout can be implemented.
