WeLoveBrussels Photo Expo: “Brussels Architecture. Art Nouveau & More”

You’re invited! Join us for the opening of WeLoveBrussels Photo Expo: “Brussels Architecture. Art Nouveau & More” on 14 September from 18h. Following our Call for photo entries launched last month, discover the pictures of around 30 participants who share their passion for Art Nouveau and the architectural heritage of Brussels.

Inspired by the Year of Art Nouveau in Brussels, in collaboration with Talk C.E.C Gallery, we invite you to an exciting expo which focuses on the rich architectural heritage of our city. Apart from the WeLoveBrussels community, a special section of the exhibition is dedicated to the photos of Dorka Demeter, WeLoveBrussels Art Nouveau editor and Instagrammer @artnouveau.brussels. We will also have a guest artist at the expo – Phil Lewis aka @artnouveauman.

The opening event takes place in the Talk C.E.C gallery (Chaussee de Wavre 143, 1050 Ixelles) from 18h to 22h. Apart from our photo expo, you can use the opportunity to discover this amazing venue which used to be a famous Demeuldre porcelain factory with an amazing history and art spaces to discover. There will be also music, drinks and a chance to connect with interesting people who share the passion for photography, culture and architecture. Click here to join our Facebook event page.

Can’t make it to the opening? Join our roundtable discussion on 15 September or visit Talk C.E.C during the Heritage Days in Brussels on 16 & 17 September 2023.

Roundtable on 15 September: Architecture and social media, innovative ways to preserve heritage

The Team of Talk C.E.C along with WeLoveBrussels and Dorka Demeter (@artnouveau.brussels) is organising a roundtable discussion around the topic of architecture and social media. On the occasion of the Heritage Days and Art Nouveau Year 2023, the participants of the discussion will share their experience about capturing and highlighting the architectural heritage from all over Europe – be it Art Nouveau buildings or hidden scenes. As active influencers, they will look into ways how posting on social media can contribute to the protection of these sights or to awareness raising about the state of certain architectural highlights.

Participants of the discussion:
Dorka Demeter, Art Nouveau editor of WeLoveBrussels and Instagrammer. She has lived in Brussels for 13 years, where she had the opportunity to explore the city’s Art Nouveau heritage in depth since the first COVID lockdown. It was then when she launched her @magicofartnouveau Instagram profile, which has become the largest of the kind with more than 30K followers. This was followed by the @artnouveau.brussels that focuses on the Art Nouveau heritage of Brussels. Wherever she travels, she photographes and shares Art Nouveau gems with her increasingly widening audience.
Phil Lewis, Art Nouveau Instagrammer. The UK-based photographer uses all his holidays and savings to discover and document Art Nouveau treasures all over Europe. He would venture from the large cities to the most remote regions to find an interesting building. His Instagram profile @artnouveauman with 30K followers has become an unavoidable reference point in the area of showcasing European Art Nouveau heritage.
Reginald Van de Velde, multiple award-winning architectural photographer. He is attracted by the atmosphere of abandoned places, where time has a different meaning: secret little closed-off worlds, where one can find solitude and peace. He travels to discover new abandoned scenes and places around the world. His Instagram profile @suspiciousminds counts more than 130K followers. National archives and historical preservation organisations have catalogued many of Reginald’s pictures from forgotten structures and interiors that have been erased permanently.
Moderator: Simon Thielen, Cabinet of State Secretary of Brussels Capital Region Ans Persoons
