WeLoveBrussels Photo Expo: “Brussels Architecture. Art Nouveau & More”

  • Editorial Team
  • July 20, 2023
  • 3 minute read

Call for entries! WeLoveBrussels is preparing a new edition of our photo exhibition! Inspired by the Year of Art Nouveau in Brussels, we are organising an expo which focuses on the rich architectural heritage of our city.

Are you interested to participate? We invite photography aficionados to take part in our photo contest “Brussels Architecture. Art Nouveau & More” and get a chance to exhibit at our photo expo during the Heritage Days in September 2023 along with a special thematic exhibition by our Art Nouveau editor, Dorka Demeter.

Two themes:

Art Nouveau in Brussels (buildings, interiors, furniture, details, etc)

Architecture in Brussels (general: beautiful or interesting buildings in Brussels, other interesting architectural solutions in our city)

Who can participate?

The contest is open to everyone – both professional and amateur photographers, or simply casual instagrammers. Photos can be taken with the camera or with the phone – as long as they can be printed and exhibited. We would like this project to become a true community event of WeLoveBrussels, so we encourage you all to take part!

Rules of the contest

If you have photos which fit in one of the two proposed categories, you can send them to our e-mail address and hopefully you will be selected to take part in our photo exhibition. Participation is free (no submission fee) and you can send maximum 3 photos per category (black & white and color are both accepted).

Photos need to be sent via WeTransfer link. Photos sent as an attachment will not be taken into account.

You can send maximum 3 photos per category. Please name each photo as follows:

For Art Nouveau category: SURNAME_AN_1, SURNAME_AN_2, SURNAME_AN_3

For Architecture category: SURNAME_ARCH_1, SURNAME_ARCH_2, SURNAME_ARCH_3

Our jury will select the best entries and the best photos will be displayed at a photo exhibition at Talk C.E.C Art Gallery during the Heritage Days (14-17 September). Mark your calendars: the opening night will take place on Thursday 14 September 2023 and will beopen to our whole community.

The jury will also select one winner in each category. The winner will be featured on WeLoveBrussels website (interview) and published on our social media channels.

Send your entry with wetransfer link to contact@welovebrussels.org  In your e-mail, please clearly mention your name (real or artistic) and contact details (e-mail, phone and instagram account).

Submitted photos MUST:

  • be taken in Brussels,
  • artistic approach is always appreciated as well as different perspectives. We are not looking for touristy photos of Grand Place, Mont des Arts, Atomium… Our goal is to show different view of Brussels and its architecture though the eyes of its photography-loving citizens, instagrammers etc.

If you do not get our confirmation that we received your files, please contact us again, to be sure that your files arrived correctly.

Timeline

Deadline for photo submissions is 12 August 2023.

Selected participants will be notified between 21- 24 August. The participants will be also notified regarding the technical details about the development of photos (participants will need to develop and print the photos by themselves and to bring them to the gallery at the agreed timing).

What if I am selected?

In case your photos will be selected for the exhibition, you will be asked to provide more details about your works (a time and place where a photo was taken or other details). Since we are exhibiting in the Art Gallery, participants will also get a chance to add prices, in case they are interested to sell their photos. (in agreement with the Talk C.E.C gallery).

In case you are the winner, you will be asked to provide a good quality prints of your photos: 50×70 cm or 30×40 cm.

By participating in the contest and submitting your entry you confirm that you are the copyrights holder and you authorise WeLoveBrussels to use your images, digital or printed, to promote the exhibition, WeLoveBrussels and its social media channels.

We’re also planning some surprises for the opening night, but more info on the expo will follow soon!

Good luck to all the participants!
