Lungs: New play from professional English speaking theatre in Brussels

If you have lived in Brussels or been here for long, you must have noticed that almost every person around you on the streets, in the metro or bus, or at a restaurant, is probably from a different ethnicity. With residents from 180 countries, Brussels is truly the ‘melting pot’ of cultures as it is rightly called so.

One of the most important factors that bind many internationals in the city is the English language. And if we can talk, laugh, cry, express, argue in English, why not combine all the faculties together and watch a play in the language?

Founded two years ago by Edward Macmillan, The Bridge is run by a curated list of passionate theatre and art lovers with other enthusiastic creative professionals collaborating on project basis. With the aim of ‘connecting through culture,’ The Bridge is a non-profit, sustainable organisation that also organises interactive and informative workshops in schools, communities and corporates. I met Edward, who is the Artistic Director, Éva Kamarás (Strategic Director) and Ofri Gross (Development Associate and Sustainable Officer) in their weekly office (as of now) and I must mention that their energy and love for theatre is infectious!

The Bridge Theatre started their journey in Brussels in 2021 and they have staged two plays till now, with the third one getting ready to enthral the audience from 17th May – 3rd June.

With only two actors on stage, dialogues and no change of scenes – ‘Lungs’ is going to be intensely interesting! The play written by famous playwright Duncan Macmillan has been staged across the world before and now it is Brussels’s turn. Directed by Kate McGregor, ‘Lungs’ promises to take you on a theatrical journey with its unique concept, global adaptability of the script and situations, ideas and conversations about sustainability, climate change and a lot more.

The director and other eminent personalities will also be available to interact with the spectators after the show on selected days.
