Port of Brussels launches a new campaign for the clean canal

On the occasion of the Brussels Water Days, the Port of Brussels has launched a new campaign to raise awareness on the cleanliness of the canal. The visuals and the slogan “The canal, I like it clean!” puts people at the heart of this new initiative.

In 2022, the Port of Brussels collected 160m3 of waste in the canal thanks to its three cleaning boats. These large volumes and almost daily actions testify to the importance which is given to the cleanliness of the canal zone. Port of Brussels manages about 14 kilometres of Brussels canal.

The new campaign from the port authorities intends to raise awareness among the population and residents of the canal area. The goal is simple – emphasise the fact that the canal is even more beautiful when it is clean and that we all have a role to play in preventing the waste from ending up in the water.

As part of this campaign, new billboards will be gradually installed on the railings along the canal. The Port of Brussels will also roll out its digital campaign, with a strong focus on social networks. Finally, a targeted campaign with posters will be carried out in the neighbourhoods along the canal. Interestingly, the cleaning boats will now appear in the colours of the Port, clearly recognisable when they go out on the canal.

The public already got a chance to see the preview of the campaign on the occasion of the Brussels Water Days (19 March) at the BRYC. A demonstration was made with the ‘Damona’, the latest arrival in the fleet of cleaner boats and the first 100% electric boat purchased by the Port.

Alain MARON, Brussels Minister for the Environment shared his satisfaction with this campaign: “Clean, that is also the name of the first regional strategy for urban cleanliness, launched last year to make Brussels cleaner and more pleasant place to live. I am delighted to see that the Port is actively participating in its implementation, both in terms of prevention, and in terms of cleaning the canal and even managing the waste. »
