New design of the Belgian passport features the most famous comic strip characters

Belgium got a brand new design for its passport! As of 7th February 2022, Belgian passport will feature the heroines and heroes from the world of the comic strips.

On January 27, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sophie Wilmès announced the launch of the new Belgian passport. Ministry has also announced that the new document is more secure thanks to new security and personalization techniques.

Comic strip aficionados have been especially happy to hear that the new Belgian passport also be recognisable thanks to its original design, which honors one of the jewels of Belgian culture: the heroines and heroes of comic strips.

This is a very smart move for the country branding of Belgium as the new passport design definitely stands out and offer a unique way to show off the strength of the country’s culture.

The new passport will be available from 7 February 2022 at the local municipality offices (or consular posts for those who live abroad). The old passport remain valid until its expiry date. The passport issued by Belgium currently allows our citizens to travel to 149 countries, 110 of which are visa-free.
