City Garden: Covered plant market in the EU quarter

City Garden – a brand new event in the Brussels will bring a covered plant market in the heart of the EU quarter. The initiative to organise a market of plants comes from the ACCJM – the association of local commerces of the Carrefour Jean Monnet.

The organisers plan to turn this initiative into a bi-annual event – “This will be the first edition of the City Garden but our goal is to organise the plant market two times per year, at the beginning of the spring and at the beginning of the autumn. This way we could have plants of the season each time”, says Nicole Du Jacquière, president of the ACCJM association.

Covered Plant Market

The event will take place from 11th to 13th November in Rue Stévin 142 & 144, right next to the European Commission building (Berlaymont). The area of the plant market will be clearly marked and will have two entrances in accordance with the sanitary measures. The opening hours are from 11h until 20h and the entrance is completely free. The market will also be open longer on Friday 12th November during the “Nocturne” until 22h.

Apart from the plant market, visitors will also have the chance to discover numerous new drawings which were recently painted on the sidewalks in the neighbourhood during the first edition of the Ground Festival which was also organised by ACCJM. Finally, everyone is invited to enjoy a drink or meal in one of the numerous local bars & restaurants in the area of Carrefour Jean Monnet and discover the vibrant atmosphere of the EU quarter!

City Garden / Jardin de Ville / Stadstuin is organised by ACCJM in collaboration with EU neighbourhood associations GAQ and the Schuman Square. The event is supported by the Department of Economical Affairs of the City of Brussels.

ACCJM (which stands for Association des Commerçants Carrefour Jean Monnet) is a very active association that regularly organises events and initiatives to revive and improve this part of the EU quarter. One of their recent activities included the first edition of the Ground Festival which invited artists from different EU countries to illustrate the pavements around the Berlaymont building in the heart of the EU District.
