Art installation Europe Readr in the Citizens’ Garden

A new art installation Europe Readr is unveiled in the Citizens’ Garden of the European Parliament in Brussels. The sculpture carries the message of coexistence and acceptance of the cultural diversity of the European Union.

Europe Readr is the flagship project of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which encourages everybody to open a book for a better future. The online reader europereadr.eu brings current social issues to readers around the world through a selection of literary works from across the European Union. As part of the project, an art installation and several literary events will be held in the Citizens’ Garden.

This installation will be visible in Brussels until the end of September. The sculpture consists of 12 different types of indigenous Slovenian wood, symbolizing the 12 partners of the Europe Readr project within the EUNIC Brussels network. Sculpture has a unique tree shape, made and processed by hand, using traditional approaches, by Studio Drevos.

Visitors are able to access the free digital library by simply scanning the QR code on the Europe Readr tree installation. This way the visitors get an access to a curated collection of European literature.

Opening event on 14th July was attended by David-Maria Sassoli, President of the European Parliament, Dr. Anže Logar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, and Gitte Zschoch, Director of EUNIC.

“Europe Readr creates new public spaces for exchange and debate on shared European and global values. It contributes to new european bauhaus by linking creativity, sustainability and social inclusion.”

Gitte Zschoch

The literary event “Writers on the Future of the Living” will be held on September 21, 2021. To find out more about this event and related programme, consult the Visit EP page. Europe Readr is the newest art installation in this park along with the Disappearing Wall.
