The building of Hotel Astoria in central Brussels (Rue Royale) has been abandoned since 2007. The hotel is now set to be renovated and restored to its former glory. Originally the hotel was supposed to close down for merely 2 years, but many different circumstances have turned 2 into 13 years already. The architects are now preparing the restoration of the property with the plan to reopen in 2024.
“Hotel Astoria will not only be the most elegant hotel in Brussels. It will also be a meeting place for people visiting Brussels and for Brusselsers.”
Pascal smet, brussels state secretary for urbanism and heritage
Many locals were happy with the news – “This hotel is a reminder of good old times – we fondly remember Sunday concerts & afternoon brunches” remembers one of the residents.
As announced on the website of Metzger et Associes Architecture – restoration, renovation and extension works will transform mythical Hotel Astoria into Corinthia Grand Hotel Astoria, a 5-star palace.
The hotel was built in 1909 by Henri van Dievoet to welcome visitors to the Brussels Expo Universal Exhibition of 1910.
