Citizens Garden: Inauguration by David SASSOLI, EP President, and Christos DOULKERIDIS, Mayor of Ixelles
Citizens’ Garden is the newest positive addition in the busy EU quarter. The park has been open to the public from the 2nd September 2020. European Parliament is organising a series of classical concerts in September and October, making this garden a new lovely cultural spot in our city!
From 2nd September until 30th October, on weekdays at 13.00, a 30-minute free performances offer a chance to visitors to relax and enjoy this new green oasis in Brussels’ EU district. Concerts are also a perfect opportunity to explore the Citizens’ Garden and enjoy classical music in a beautiful environment during the lunchtime.
The line-up includes virtuosos who have won international competitions, such as Jeong Hyoun ‘Christine’ Lee and rising stars, like Florian Delporte and Elen Shahinans.
The concerts will include a variety of classical instruments from the string and woodwind families, as well as the accordion and harpsichord. The highly talented musicians are based in Brussels or passing through. The concerts reflect the European Parliament’s commitment to culture and its support for young artists.
The European Parliament has helped to preserve Brussels’ cultural heritage by restoring the garden of Antoine Wiertz. The concerts takes us back to the times of the 19th century artist, who modelled his garden inspired by ancient Greek relicts he admired in Italy.
The Citizens Garden represents a green oasis in the heart of Brussels European Quarter. You can find out more about it in our recent photo story.
Please note that you will be asked to wear a facemask at the concerts and follow distancing instructions. Make sure you arrive early and take a seat before the performances begin. In case of bad weather, appropriate measures will be taken.
CONCERTS AGENDA: Full programme can be consulted on the Visit European Parliament website.
