Sea City is the new art project during this summer in Brussels, created in the framework of the #StaycationBXL program.
Sea City by the artist Marlies De Clerck brings the sea to the city. She made a series of seven oil paintings that are distributed throughout the city as a digital print. On the one hand, they will be applied to public pillars and official billboards. On the other hand, the prints in A2 format can be collected for free at seven cultural locations in Brussels. In this way, Sea City brings art into the city and at the same time into your home.
The paintings evoke the ultimate feeling of a holiday by the sea. They are summer images of different types of boats. Something that is physically impossible in the city becomes reality thanks to art.
Marlies De Clerck (Heist BE, 1988) lives and works in Brussels. In 2019 she had a solo exhibition at M HKA in Antwerp. Her work was previously shown at the Biennal of Belgium, Ghent; Art contest, Brussels; 24th rencontre art plastique international, Mesnil-Église; Generation Brussels, Brussels; Museum Dhondt Dhaenens, Deurle; Establishment d’en Face, Brussels; Art hall, Tallinn and KIOSK, Ghent.
Sea City is a project of Staycation BXL to provide Brussels residents an unforgettable staycation. Staycation BXL itself is a project of the Flemish Community Commission (VGC) with which it focuses on adapted holiday offer in Brussels.
