Photo story: WOLF, the new Food Market in Brussels!

Every big city has a food market – the grand space where people meet and enjoy in the variety of gastronomic options, cosmopolitan culinary experiences and other amenities organised in a cosy and convivial space. If you had a chance to explore Barcelona, Lisbon, London or even Antwerp and Ghent, you surely visited one of the iconic food markets that these cities already have for some time. Brussels lagged behind but finally our city got what it deserves – WOLF, the food market that will surely become the new place to be for both locals and tourists!

WOLF got its name by the street in which it is located (Fossé aux Loups) which is in fact a grand venue which was previously used by the CGER/ASLK bank. It is right in the centre of Brussels in the street leading from the cathedral of Saint Michel et Gudule to Place de Brouckere. The street got its name from historical references that wolfs used to come to that area of Brussels to drink water. In modern times, the story goes that “financial wolves” took over the area, known as a one of the business districts of Brussels. However, the idea of WOLF is to get this whole idea back to nature and back to real “wolfs” – people who love eating and drinking and who want to enjoy in variety that this unique place offers.

What can you expect in WOLF food market?

Firstly, expect a beautiful historical building with a lot of stylish food corners. In fact, former bank counters were turned into food kiosks and kitchens while still preserving the authenticity of this amazing venue. Modern and creative additions are also applied so this venue looks trendy and cosy.

The concept of the food market is simple – 2000 square metres of convivial space brings together 16 different restaurants & kitchens, micro brewery, bio market with fresh products, bar with drinks and many other cosy corners where you can enjoy in food & drinks with friends.

Sustainability is at the heart of this project. This is why Wolf will also host the Food Hub, an organic and zero-waste market where citizens can come to do a so-called “bulk shopping” for fresh and healthy products.

Once in the food market you can choose between Ethiopian, Greek, Italian, Vietnamese, Syrian cuisine but also other gastronomic offers such as Poke bowls from Poke Club, gourmet waffles from prominent chef Yves Matagne as well as Dierendonck meat delices or Belvas chocolate atelier. At the same time, WOLF micro-brewery will offer two different kinds of beers, brewed on site. Almost all the restaurants are from Brussels and in the future, WOLF plans to also give space to startups and new chefs to test their cuisine.

WOLF Food Market. Address: 50 rue Fossé aux Loups, 1000 Brussels. Opening hours: every day from 8h à 23h.
