Uzbekistan marks its Independence Day in Brussels

On the occasion of the 28th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a cultural evening and the reception was organised in Brussels for the members of the diplomatic community and friends of Uzbekistan.

The evening in the Flagey building was opened by the Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Head of Missions of Uzbekistan to the European Union and NATO, H.E. Mr. Dilyor Khakimov. He pointed out the long road that this country passed in the last 28 years of independence. This road was full of challenges but thanks to the hard work and resilience of the people of Uzbekistan, the country is making huge steps forward. The event also emphasised the positive relation between European Union and Uzbekistan. The very dynamic relationship is also getting new content including the discussions about starting the negotiations on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.

The event was also a chance to present Karakalpakstan (officially the Republic of Karakalpakstan) which is an autonomous republic within Uzbekistan. It occupies the northwestern part of Uzbekistan with Nukus as its capital. Even though the region faces a lot of challenges due to the drainage of the Aral Sea, extensive drought, unfavourable weather patterns, the strong efforts and willingness of the people to move forward are visible and bring hope that this region has bright future.

The evening was also a wonderful opportunity to showcase Uzbek culture through music and performances. The audience truly enjoyed discovering the rich musical heritage and tradition of this part of the world.
