Metallica concert in Brussels: Fans invited to use the bicycle

Metallica is touring Europe and Brussels is one of their next stops – the band will play at the King Baudouin Stadium on June 16th. The group used their Facebook page to invite fans to cycle to the concert venue. The reason – it’s the easiest and quickest way to get to the stadium where the concert takes place.

Metallica posted detailed info for its fans coming from different parts of Brussels and Belgium, noting that first 1000 cyclist will also receive a small gift from the band. The band shared the following message:

Hey Belgium!

The King Baudouin Stadium is easy to reach by bike. Lots of municipalities are within cycling distance. A free, secure bike parking area will be provided near the entrance at the Victor Boin stadium (Houba de Strooperlaan, Brussel). The first 1,000 cyclists to arrive will be rewarded with a small gift from Metallica.

Also handy: you can use the Villo shared bicycles in Brussels. A day pass costs 1.60 euros. There are four Villo stations around the King Baudouin Stadium: Heizel/Heysel, Atomium, Stadion/Stade and Houba-Brugmann. You can find more information about Villo at en.villo.be.

You live too far away to come by bike? Park & Bike is a good option. You bring a bike in your car, park your car just outside Brussels and then bike to the King Baudouin Stadium. Parking is available at:
•Botanic Garden in Meise (Nieuwelaan 38, 1860 Meise – a 4,5 km bike ride)
•Hypermarkt Carrefour Sint-Agatha-Berchem (Keizer Karellaan 560, 1082 Sint-Agatha-Berchem – a 5 km bike ride)

This has created a lot of positive echoes in Brussels. Mobility blogger Kwinten Lambrecht wrote a piece that was published by VRT, noting that positive initiatives such as these make people think about change. In “the age of the influencer”, brands and personalities often have much more influence on behavior change of citizens than, for instance, government campaigns that are worth millions of euros. (full article)
