Brussels’ Cultural Scene on the Rise: The MIMA

Brace yourself, because Brussels’ cultural scene is on the rise!

The MIMA (Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art) has just opened its doors. It is located in a former brewery on the Brussels’ canal, which has been refurbished and now houses a new private and unorthodox contemporary art space. This is a significant event for the city without  a public contemporary art museum. (1)

The MIMA’s mission is to be the defining museum of the contemporary art presenting the most significant art of its time, and exploring a history of culture 2.0. The museum has an experimental funding model (read more on their website).

We have visited the City Lights exhibition, which you may also see until August 28. For the first tim in a European institution you may appreciate the way that five American artists — Maya Hayuk, SWOON, MOMO & FAILE —presented their multidimensional showcase of a 2.0 culture. We highly recommend it! Besides the unique art, the views from MIMA’s balconies alone are well worth your visit.

Opening Hours: Wednesday – Sunday, 10 AM – 6 PM
