An Evening with Fran Lebowitz in Brussels

On 20 September, the legendary Fran Lebowitz – author, journalist, social observer, and the uncrowned empress of sarcasm – comes to Brussels for an exclusive evening filled with witty observations, sharp anecdotes, and relentless opinions.

An Evening with Fran Lebowitz takes the audience on a razor-sharp conversation about … everything. From the madness of social conventions to the absurdity of tourists and the tyranny of technology. No topic is safe from Fran Lebowitz. And yes, there will be room for questions – if you dare.

For more than four decades, Fran Lebowitz has been a cult figure in American culture. She began her career as a columnist for Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine, later making a name with her essay collections Metropolitan Life and Social Studies, both instant bestsellers. Her writings are iconic for their dry humor, brilliant timing, mischievousness, and ruthless precision. The New York icon incisively dissects what most people only dare to whisper. In a cultural landscape full of endless commentators and chatterboxes, she stands out as one of the most incisive social commentators.

“Fran Lebowitz’s trademark is the sneer; she disapproves of virtually everything except sleep, cigarette smoking, and good furniture.”
The Paris Review

Her sharp insight extends beyond the written page. Lebowitz had a recurring role as Judge Janice Goldberg in Law & Order, appeared in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, and is a frequent guest on talk shows hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien, and Bill Maher. She has also featured in various documentaries. More notably, Martin Scorsese directed an HBO documentary about Lebowitz titled Public Speaking (2010). And in his acclaimed Netflix series Pretend It’s a City (2021), Lebowitz shares her perspective on modern life in New York. The series was nominated for an Emmy and became a cult favorite.

Her uncompromising style, literary elegance, and hilarious discomfort with modern conventions have earned her numerous other accolades. Additionally, since 2008, Fran Lebowitz has been listed in the Vanity Fair International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame. The former taxi driver, conveyor belt salesperson, and apartment cleaner – with a minor specialty in venetian blinds – has remained a style icon for years.

An evening with Fran Lebowitz is not a lecture. It’s a mental workout, wrapped in satire.
