Celebrate Multilingualism Day at the European Parliament

Multilingualism Day is always a great opportunity to peek behind the curtain and discover how the European Parliament works in 24 languages! The main event takes place on 23 September 2023 and offers a chance to meet European Parliament interpreters and translators, test your own language skills and join different workshops, talks and engaging activities.

Multilingualism ensures that all European citizens can use their own language to follow the work of their democratic representatives in the world’s most multilingual parliament. Multilingualism Day is a perfect occasion for everyone to get a clear picture of what it looks like to work in a truly unique environment with the 24 official languages.

Visitors will be able to join numerous workshops, quizzes and on-site activities as well as guided tours of the Hemicycle plenary chamber. On 22 September, the programme will focus on interactive online workshops while the doors of the European Parliament open on Saturday 23 September with a diverse and engaging on-site activities.

Visitors’ centre of Paul-Henri Spaak building will be open from 10.00 to 18.00. The ground floor will feature talks with interpreters and translators, offering insights into these two professions as well as on working in the multilingual environment in the European Parliament. There will be also many different stands and presentations which offer a chance to meet better the world of multilingualism and even a special “Be an MEP” virtual reality experience. Another usual highlight includes guided visits to the Hemicycle on the 4th floor but this is also where a range of interactive activities will be located – interpretation boots where you can test your skills, games and quizzes, kids activities and various presentations.
