Discover the ‘ICONIC’ photography exhibition by World Press Photo

The new Info Hub of the European Parliament in Brussels hosts the “ICONIC” exhibition curated by the World Press Photo Foundation. The six-month expo will be complemented by a series of related events revolving around the topics of press freedom, freedom of expression and safety for journalists.

The ICONIC exhibition, which is curated especially for the European Parliament, puts focus on press freedom, showcasing a selection of previous winners of the “World Press Photo of the Year”. Side programme will feature guided tours, talks and panel discussions and explore issues such as freedom of expression, democracy, civil and human rights and migration. The ICONIC exhibition runs until mid-January 2023.

“Protecting and supporting journalists is at the heart of European democracy. Europe draws its strength from its democracy. And, we know that there can be no democracy without freedom of the press. This timely exhibition invites us to reflect on the importance of the fourth pillar of our Democracy.”

Roberta metsola, President of the European Parliament

First exhibition in the new Info Hub of the European Parliament

To mark the opening of the Info Hub (located on the Esplanade Solidarność in front of the European Parliament), the first exhibition is organised in collaboration with the renowned World Press Photo Foundation. This independent, non-profit organisation provides a variety of perspectives from all corners of the globe through the medium of photojournalism. Each year, the Foundation awards works that present courageous stories, invaluable insights, and a diversity of interpretations.

Info Hub aims to open access to research material, policy talks, civil society events, and thought-provoking exhibitions to the interested public. With distinct areas offering access to a variety of content and activities, the Info Hub offers a chance to engage in a dialogue on the European Union and democracy, attend a short policy talk, or simply sit and read more about what is going on in Europe. With a constantly changing programme of events and exhibitions, citizens are invited to regularly visit this space in the heart of the European Quarter and discover something new each time. “We are pleased to curate this special exhibition and to organise the ICONIC events for the European Parliament, presenting some of the most defining moments in our human history. We believe that by opening windows to different and diverse places and voices, we create deeper understanding and connections between people from around the world. We hope this exhibition will ignite conversations about our shared values, and visitors will join us in our mission to support the conditions needed to make democracy work.”

Joumana El Zein Khoury, Executive Director of World Press Photo Foundation
