Agenda: Glowee, discover the power of bioluminescence in the EU Quarter

Curious to discover the illuminations originating from the sea in the heart of the EU quarter in Brussels? Thanks to Glowee, the new pop-up installation which is located at the corner of the Carrefour Jean Monnet, at the crossing of the Rue Archimède and Rue Stevin, the public has an opportunity to discover the alternative way of producing light.

Interested citizens will be able to experience the power of nature and the so-called bioluminescence, thanks to the French company Glowee. Bioluminesence is in fact the production and emission of light by certain living organisms such as fireflies or glowworms, but also more than 80% of marine organisms.

Using bioluminescence completely changes the way light is produced and consumed, enabling a new type of illumination: living, organic, liquid and respectful of both biodiversity and citizens. Biological lighting is also seen as an alternative to artificial lighting, helping to build a more responsible and liveable world.

An inspiring openness to the world of tomorrow. Bioluminescence has the power to create biological light which will be an alternative to artificial light, a new lighting philosophy for our living spaces.

This innovative activity in the European district is a result of a perfect collaboration between the Alderman for Economic Affairs of the City of Brussels Fabian Maingain, the EntreprendreBruxelles service and ACCJM, the association of merchants of Carrefour Jean Monnet which is very active in the promotion of this neighbourhood.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see something quite exceptional if you are passing through the Carrefour Jean Monnet neighbourhood – stop by and step into the box which is positioned at the crossing of the streets Archimede and Stevin (next to Berlaymont building), between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m on 6, 7 and 8 October 2022.

In addition, visitors are invited to take a look at the window of the “Thé 14” store located at 14 rue Archimède to see some special effects that these biological lightning can produce. (on display between 7 and 10 p.m). The ACCJM is pleased to showcase this innovative project, particularly in these times when the questions of rising electricity costs and environmental protection are high on the agenda.
