Agenda: “Avant que j’oublie…” Exhibition of ephemeral works

Avant que j’oublie… is a very original and unique artistic event, taking place in the urban environment of Ixelles / Elsene municipality. Under the moving theme of the “ephemeral”, Michel Van Dyck brought together artists proposing works which, each time, invite us to reflect on the topics of time and impermanence.

Indeed, this exhibition offers a range of works that offer only a “moment”, while being witnessed in the eyes of passers-by. Because everything happens outside, everything is open to the public. Thus the walkers around the Abbey of La Cambre and the Ponds of Ixelles first experience astonishment of discovering interventions which “disturb” the usual framework of the city – and then, as they pass by, they will be able to experience the beauty of particular situation.

Of course, the works will not have the same erasing time. The ephemeral varies. A few minutes, a few hours or a few weeks after their installation, each of them will withdraw little by little, until they disappear without leaving a trace, except in memory. From the song of birds by Ann Veronica Janssens dissipating in the air, to the circles in the water of the ponds by Sophie Whettnal, or the painted street of Pieter Vermeersch, each intervention (we mentioned just a few of them) will have its own duration, inherent to the gesture of each guest artist.

“Avant que j’oublie…” is already becoming a memorable story. The exhibition was made possible thanks to Christos Doulkeridis, Mayor of Ixelles, Audrey Lhoest, Alderman for Green Spaces, Ken Ndiaye, Alderman for Culture, Els Gossé, the Alderman for Dutch-speaking Culture and the members of the College communal.
