Guided walks: Discover the European Parliament and its surroundings

How well do you know the European quarter in Brussels? You surely walked around this busy district or heard something about the so-called “EU bubble”. However, there are really a lot of hidden gems in the area, with fascinating stories to be told as well as the historical context which has led to the creation of EU institutions and their concentration in this part of the city. Thanks to the free guided walks visitors can get acquainted with the history and architecture of the European Parliament buildings in Brussels, and learn about its interesting surroundings.

The European Parliament walking tours allow everyone to dive into the world of this EU institution, but also to uncover the less known parts of the European quarter – green spaces (ever been to Citizens’ Garden?), art, history and architectural gems. The guided walks last 90-minutes and take place every Sunday during spring and summer. The tours are available in English, French, Dutch and German and should be booked online in advance. There may be a number of last minute places available on the day, but priority is given to visitors with a reservation.

With an experienced tour guide by your side, you can discover some of Brussels best-kept secrets!

Free guided tours also explain the broader history of the European project and how Brussels became its beating heart. Participants will walk around the neighbourhood while discovering how European institutions shaped the urban landscape of the city.

The tour ends in the historic Leopold Park. This was once a zoo – home to all kinds of animals, but now it houses cultural institutions and historic monuments, such as the Solvay Library, the House of European History and even the sections of the Berlin Wall! From here, you can continue your journey through the Leopold Quarter and further explore the lively European quarter. During this guided walk, participants are free to ask questions and receive advice on what else there is to do in the bustling city of Brussels.
