The Festival of the New European Bauhaus

The first edition of the Festival of the New European Bauhaus is taking place from the 9th to the 12th of June. It will be held as a hybrid event with different activities both in Brussels and online. The Festival is the first of its kind since the European Commission launched the New European Bauhaus initiative in 2021.

The festival has the goal to bring citizens from all walks of life and from across Europe to debate and discuss how to build a more sustainable, beautiful, and inclusive world. It aims to foster synergies between the arts and science, politics and technology, as well as nature and society in order to address societal challenges. This first edition will bring together exhibitions, artistic performances, conferences, seminars and other gatherings combining a ‘live’ onsite event and a ‘virtual’ online component.

The idea behind the New European Bauhaus is to imagine a world that is more in tune with nature but also taking full advantage of the digital age by focusing on science and creative industries and contributing to a more fair and inclusive world. The slogan of the initiative is ‘beautiful, sustainable, together’. The New European Bauhaus was launched by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in 2021.

On the programme:

The festival includes a multitude of events and projects and the public can participate both online and across different locations.

The Fair consists of a live exhibition (including virtual reality, 3D, and live interaction) across Brussels to showcase current and future projects, along with opportunities to meet, interact and exchange ideas, bringing together different actors who are enthusiastic about getting involved. Some of the projects of the Fair are organised in both onsite and online formats. More details.

The Fest consists of a live cultural programme with a range of performances organised across Brussels, alongside opportunities to meet, interact and exchange ideas, bringing together a wide range of individuals from different walks of life. An additional programme of Side events, initiatives organised independently in Belgium and other EU Member States, is also on offer. More details.

The Forum consists of a series of debates building on the key themes of the NEB (on green transition, architecture, R&I, culture, education, regional development, international challenges etc.), ensuring a well-balanced mix of policy discussions and innovative participatory formats. It is designed as a non-conventional space open to different stakeholders, including citizens and activists along with politicians and public authorities. The Forum is organised in both onsite and online format, in Brussels and on this digital platform. More details.
