The Hallerbos forest is covering an area of 552 ha and is located in the vicinity of Brussels (in the municipality of Halle in Flemish Brabant, with a little part also spreading in Walloon Brabant). This is a very popular destination, especially during a few weeks each spring when its bluebell carpet covers the forest. The popularity has also lead to calls for better protection of the forest and certain limitations on the number of daily visitors in order to protect the natural environment during the busy days.
I’m Javier Pedromingo, a Spanish expat living in Brussels for the past 3 years. I studied Audiovisual Communication and Digital Marketing in Spain before coming to Brussels and now I’m working as Digital Media Consultant here. I’ve always had a passion for photography and visual storytelling since I have memory, as my father was a photographer, I grew up with lots of cameras around me, so playing with them from a young age and going through photography books played a key role on my skills today.
At a weekend when my grandfather passed away and being unable to be in Spain when it happened, I used the trip to Hallerbos to enjoy the life that comes with Spring in the uniqueness of a forest covered in bluebells that you cannot find elsewhere. Photography is therapeutic in many ways and this is one of them to me: it makes me drown in the details and find something unique and beautiful about it. For 3 years I wanted to visit this forest so I saw a lot of pictures of it but I was determined to see it and portray it through my own lenses.
