The Nine, Brussels’ first female-focused members’ club

Our team recently visited a new women’s club in Brussels called ‘The Nine’. Set in the EU Quarter in an exquisite art nouveau townhouse, this space for women designed by women is simply amazing. Stepping inside, we immediately felt at home. Stylish decorations, architecture, artworks… it all looked inviting and welcoming. The clubhouse is designed as a place where members can meet and greet, read and learn, work and collaborate but also relax and unwind. Conveniently, clubhouse has a cafe and restaurant which cater to the needs of visitors all day long.

During our visit we explored different spaces – each area of the clubhouse is unique. The Nine offers a variety of amenities – community areas, the library, reading nooks, co-working and meeting spaces, a lovely bar, beautifully designed restrooms, a huge garden…

One of our favourite parts was a riviera-like garden, which is quite unique for Brussels. It will definitely be one of the ideal spots during the warmer days. You can check our Instagram stories for a sneak peek around the clubhouse.

More than a members’ club

The Nine actually feels like a safe heaven in the heart of the busy EU quarter, a place where women can relax, meet, read, work and connect with other members.

In addition to the standard clubhouse perks such as co-working space, library, the restaurant and the bar, the Nine also offers a range of interesting activities and community events for the interested public. Exploring a range of topics, from female revolutionaries in the Middle East to women fighting climate change, this is the place to cultivate new ideas but also learn new skills and grow.

The founder of the club Georgia Brooks is a passionate advocate for women’s rights and gender equality. She is originally British-Canadian-Lebanese, and grew up between the U.K., Canada, and Egypt. Her decision to create The Nine & The Nine Equality Initiative in 2020, was inspired by the many incredible women and associations she encountered while in Belgium.

Georgia encourages in-house interactions and strongly believes in a power of community. Even thought the focus of the club is exclusively on women, men are also welcome as guests – and they do not have to fear, there’s even a very cool men’s room in the clubhouse 🙂

We asked Georgia to share with us the idea and motivation behind this unique clubhouse in Brussels:

“Community is the key for us. The Nine is way more than a club. It’s a space which fosters inspiring conversations, creativity, progressive ideas and new collaborations. It’s also a place where people can relax and feel at home, away from home”

We really liked the fact that The Nine aims to support and showcase the works of female artists from around the world. The clubhouse has a permanent collection curated by Stephanie Manasseh of SM Art Advisory. A number of temporary art exhibitions will also regularly take place in the house.

We are convinced that projects such as The Nine are a much-needed addition to the diverse landscape of clubs and associations in Brussels. Even thought this project was launched in the midst of the ongoing health crisis, it has already become a gathering spot for ladies who appreciate the positive community spirit paired with the passion for networking, growth and progress.
