Graduation ceremony of ULB and VUB on the Grand Place in Brussels

For the second year in a row, the City of Brussels is organizing a graduation ceremony for the students of the Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Between 4 and 10 October, students from the 2021 graduation year will experience an unforgettable moment in the presence of their families and various prominent figures on the Grand Place / Grote Markt and in the Brussels town hall.

From 4 to 10 October, for the second year in a row, the students of the ULB and the VUB will be honored on the most beautiful square in the world.

“The graduation ceremony on the Grand-Place is very symbolic, and we in the city of Brussels are happy that we can let ULB and VUB students and their families live this experience, especially after the last very difficult months in their student career”, emphasizes Philippe Close, Mayor of the City of Brussels.

For seven days, this important event will be the focus of the happenings on the Grand-Place and in the city center.

The gowns will be distributed in advance in the beautiful Royal Galleries of Saint Hubertus.

“It is fantastic to be able to carry out the proclamation of our students on the beautiful Grand-Place of Brussels – a strong symbol that magnifies even more than usual the efforts they have made during this difficult period. I warmly congratulate them and thank the city Brussels to welcome us again,” said Annemie Schaus, rector of the ULB.

“It is wonderful for the students to be able to complete their studies in style on the Grand-Place, where the city of Brussels welcomes us again this year. It is a culmination of a period of personal growth, intellectual development and inspiration for their future. We hope to give them this beautiful farewell with love.” Caroline Pauwels, rector of the VUB, ends.

What is special about this class of students is that they are the first to completely spend their master’s degree in corona times and not be able to physically go to class.

To guarantee everyone’s safety in the stands and in the City Hall, the graduation ceremony zones fall under the Covid Safe Ticket protocol.
