Join the debate: The Voice of the international Brusseler, 18 October 2021.

How can we make Brussels better and activate more people to engage in the discussions on the future of our city? The public is invited to join “The Voice of the international Brusseler” – a debate on the democratic representation of the international citizens of Brussels, which will take place on October 18th at StamEuropa in the European Quarter.

The discussion on the issues that matter to international Brusselsers is very important, especially since 1 in 3 Brussels’ citizens has no voting right for the Regional elections. This means that many significant decisions on their life in the city are made without taking into account what this large group of people have to say. Thanks to the recently created platform Live here. Speak, hear launched by commissioner.brussels, upon the initiative of State Secretary Pascal Smet, international Brusselers are offered a chance to raise their voice for and contribute to the city life with concrete proposals.

To spark these discussions and meet in real life, one.brussels is bringing together a diverse group of experts, politicians and international Brusselers to exchange views on the issue of democratic representation, and to find out what can be done to make things better in that regard.

Speakers on the event will include State Secretary Pascal Smet, Brussels Commissioner for Europe Alain HutchinsonIlaria Maselli of I Vote Where I Live, Dagmar Ottevangers of 1BRU1VOTESandra Parthie of Cologne Institute for Economic Research and member of the Brussels Parliament Els Rochette.
