Ground Festival at Carrefour Jean Monnet

New festival for the admirers of street art in Brussels! Ground Festival will take place at Carrefour Jean Monnet in the EU quarter, from 25 September to 03 October 2021. The produced works will remain visible to the public after the festival, bringing colour & creativity to this part of the EU quarter.

Six street artists, each coming from one of the 6 founding members of the European Union, are invited to come and draw their vision of the Fauna and Flora in the future. The artists will receive a carte blanche to colorfully express themselves on the proposed topic. The results will be visible on the sidewalk bordering the European Commission – the side of the sections of rue Archimède and rue Stévin.

Invited artists will begin with the works on Tuesday September 21 and will finish on Friday September 24. Their work on the street art will take place on the sidewalks around the Berlaymont building, bordering the European Commission between the Rond-Point Schuman and the intersection of Rue Stevin and Boulevard Charlemagne.

Following artists will participate in the festival: Alain Welter, Victoria Roussel, Roy Schreuder, Papa Chango, Iota & Ozmo.

The official opening of all the artworks will take place on Saturday, September 25. The public is invited to discover the new artworks but also to enjoy this lovely area of Brussels with its numerous cafes, restaurants, shops and interesting buildings. This event also aims to contribute to the economic revival of the European district which was strongly affected by the measures taken to contain the Covid-19. The access to the festival is free of charge.

The Ground Festival is the initiative of the ACCJM – association of local merchants around the Carrefour Jean Monnet and will be carried out with the artistic collaboration with TAVU (non-profit organization) and the support of the Echevinate of Economic Affairs of the City of Brussels.

ACCJM is very active in the promotion of this part of the European District. Nicole Du Jacquière, President of ACCJM announced that several other projects are planned in the coming period – “This is already the second action which we organised in the field of street art in one year. Our association plans to do more similar activities in order to make Carrefour Jean-Monnet known for quality street art. The goal is to create a kind of “Street Art” carpet which will be visible during the whole year. It will help us to bring more visibility for this area of Brussels and to increase the attractiveness of the entire neighbourhood.”

You can follow more about ACCJM activities via the Facebook page – Association de commerçants Carrefour Jean Monnet.
